How many times have you heard that “you’ve got to set goals” to be a success? Too many? So many, perhaps that a scribbled sticky-note acts like a to-do list and a goal list all at once (where DID that note go… ?). Uncertainty haunts you like last year’s Halloween ghost and reaching success, creative freedom or any kind of freedom is riding that last bubble down the drain.
What if, instead of ‘writing goals’ that you know you’ll never follow, you were instead – writing down the key to freedom?
Would you SIT UP a little straighter? PAY ATTENTION… just a wee bit more?
What if I told you, that you are doing it… RIGHT? That your uncertainty, abhorrence for strictness and sabotaged planning is a cloaked message that you’ve been too busy to hear? Your way, not their way.
See, under all the goal-setting and talk about focus is this truth:
The goal underneath the goals is creative freedom.
Isn’t that what you really want? Abundance in all things, love, joy, ease, peace, support, time, s-p-a-c-e….
To have the freedom to get up, make your stuff, have it sustain all of your needs and family responsibilities with ease and do it again, and again?
To make a living, prospering from what you create – from a market who appreciates and shares your values and wants more of what you make?
THAT’s where you LOCK ON: What steps do you need to take to get there? What steps today will move you closer to your version creative freedom?
Where your lovely artistic self gets it soooo right is that too much planning and goal-setting and focus on the perfect outcome can lead you away from smarter paths, signs of danger, fairy flowers, friendship and BIG opportunities.
Focus on the process instead of the big goals. Set the goals, but delight in the path that takes you there. Be flexible, adaptable, bendable.
Allow yourself to be uncertain.
Let the path reveal itself along the way. Define it, but leave wiggle room: What is one thing that looks like creative freedom to me?
Success when I can create all day with no appointments or other responsibilities? Success is when I can create a full-time job for someone?
Be hyperaware, see the dots connecting, pay attention when a dream has come true. Hear the whispers of support.
Have open reverence for life, the imperfect.
Feel compassion for yourself and others. If everything is connected and alive (even inanimate objects) then you have compassion for your paint brush that isn’t clean.
Respect yourself and the needs of your circle.
